Summer Fun Programs

Mermaid’s Lagoon

Grades 2-4 Sessions 1B, 5A, 5B Fee $280

Spend a long summer day at Skylark’s very own beach lagoon. While at the beach, enjoy splashing, playing games and building sandcastles for mermaids near the shimmering waves. Explore the tidepools where other sea creatures spend their days. Visit Fern Grove to build a fairy house, take a twilight hike, have fun with arts and crafts, outdoor cooking, meadow games, and more.

Explore all that Skylark Ranch has to offer in this cool summer fun program! Discover new sea critters at the tidepools while hanging out with friends on the beach. Take the llamas on a nature hike to Inspiration Point or spend the afternoon shooting archery and swinging from the low or high ropes course. Work together with your friends to perform a skit at campfire. Enjoy outdoor cooking, stargazing, and get ready to choose your own adventure! *(due to the length of session 1B, activities may vary.)

Summer Magic

Grades 7-12 Session 1B Fee $280

It’s a quick getaway to experience the outdoors, activities and magic of Skylark Ranch. Create a unique work of art, hang out at the beach, cook gourmet goodies over a campfire, try your hand at archery or experience the thrill of the high ropes course. It’s four days of fun and new friends just waiting for you!

Moonshadows

Grades 8-12 Session 4A Fee $485

Just for older girls. Enjoy your favorite camp activities by day and discover Skylark Ranch by night. Share late night talks sitting around the campfire under the stars and sleep late if you choose. Go on an overnight to Point Montara Lighthouse in Half Moon Bay, have fun sea kayaking and watch the sunset surrounded by new friends.

Star Trekkers

Grades 4-6 Session 2B Fee $445

Hiking in daytime can be fun, but hiking at twilight is fantastic! Join your friends for night time games in the meadow like flashlight tag, take a moonlight llama hike, or shoot a round of “glow in the dark” archery. Plan a stargazing sleepover at Chapel Hill and take a tour of the summer night sky. By day, visit the Morrison Planetarium at the California Academy of Sciences.

Archers Adventure

Grades 5-8 Session 4B Fee $450

Become an archery legend! Ready your arrows, take aim, and shoot. Join Maid Marian’s Quest for the best archer in the land and learn or enhance your skills in the sport of archery. Make your own arrows, targets, arm guards and more. Play creative shooting games and take an exciting trip to a local field archery range to experience a whole new world of archery.

Llama Mamas

Grades 4-6 Sessions 2A, 4A Fee $425

Are you ready for a llama expedition?!? Learn just how wonderful these unique and intelligent creatures are. Spend your days feeding, grooming, and training our very own llamas for amazing treks through camp. Have a “packnic party” and let the llamas pack your lunch to Inspiration Point. Create a one of a kind piece of art from llama wool and learn to handle and care for llamas during a special visit from our veterinarian too.

Beach Boogie

Grades 5-7 Sessions 2B, 4B Fee $455

Sand, surf and sun are waiting for you. Spend a day cruisin’ the waves in Santa Cruz on your very own boogie board. Back on land explore the tidepools at Skylark’s beach, play games in the sand at Bean Hollow beach and participate in our Fourth Annual Sandcastle Contest! Plan a dance party for other campers and boogie the night away.

Summer Sleuths

Grades 5-7 Session 3 Fee $445

It’s an outrageous session-long “who-dunit” mystery. With your fellow sleuths, you’ll find clues to solve a case… if you can. Enjoy riddles, minute mysteries and a trip to the Mystery Spot. It’s an open and shut case of summer fun.

Castaways

Grades 8-12 Session 2B Fee $425

Everyday is a new challenge! Test your outdoor skills and instincts as you and your teammates are given tasks to complete and problems to solve in order to find out where you’ll be making camp for the night. Learn the basics of backpacking, map reading, shelter building and even belaying. Experience the unexplored paradise of Skylark Ranch.

Beach Girls

Grades 7-10 Sessions 1A, 5 Fee $495

Ready for some EXTREME summer fun? Have a summer BBQ with friends. Spend the day at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, go on an overnight at Point Montara Lighthouse, and enjoy swimming at Santa Cruz beaches. Don’t miss out- be a Beach Girl!

Creative Arts Programs

MyStudio

Grades 7-10 Session 4 Fee $595

Express yourself through different forms of media. Learn techniques in ceramics, mosaics, painting, and more. Spend a portion of your day taking a lesson on these new techniques and then create a studio space to explore your creative side further. Visit the deYoung Museum in San Francisco to see an Artist Studio set up and meet the Artist in Residence.

Guitars & Gourmet

Grades 6-9 Session 2A Fee $450

Whether you’re cooking something delicious to eat or singing your favorite camp songs… this program has it all! Create gourmet meals- outdoor style and sit around the campfire learning to play or just enjoy your favorite camp songs on the guitar. Plan a campfire party with another group and serenade others under the stars. No previous guitar or music experience necessary. Guitars are provided.

Pacific Adventure Programs

Surf's Up

Grades 8-12 Session 3 Fee $665

Hang ten and ride the waves as you surf the waters in Santa Cruz. Under he direction of a world-renowned surfing instructor, spend eight hours over four days learning the basics of this exciting sport. You’ll be on your board in no time! Visit the surfing museum in Santa Cruz and check out the famous Steamers Lane. Surf’s Up! All equipment is provided. Must be able to swim face down in deep water.

Seafari

Grades 5-7 Sessions 2A, 4A Fee $485

Explore the wealth of wildlife roaming the endless Pacific! Your Seafari begins by visiting the Elephant Seals at Ano Nuevo State Beach. Then head to the Seymour Marine Discovery Center and check out the dolphins, otters and other marine mammals before exploring the expansive tide pools at Natural Bridges. Your adventure continues when you take a catamaran sail through a kelp forest where you may catch a glimpse of sea lions and sea otters.

Pacific Edge

Grades 6-9 Sessions 1A, 5 Fee $580

Where the land meets the sea, there’s so much to see! Spend a day at the Monterey Bay Aquarium and get a fish’s eye view on an underwater adventure as you surface scuba dive in the Great Tide Pool! Explore Pt Lobos State Reserve and check out the hanging cliffside gardens off Bird Island Trail. Venture the waters of the Santa Cruz harbor for a day of sea kayaking too. All equipment is provided. Must be able to swim face down in deep water.

Climb On

Grades 5-8 Session 2B Fee $425

Come swing through the air with the greatest of ease… and experience the challenge on our low and high ropes courses. Work together as a team to set and accomplish goals every day on the courses. Experience a one of a kind adventure with your teammates!

Ropes & Rocks

Grades 8-12 Session 3 Fee $620

With your teammates to support you, challenge yourself on the elements of our high ropes course. Take an exciting trip to zip line at another local ropes course. Then travel to Castle Rock State Park for an exciting trip two day outdoor rock climbing experience.

Hip, Hip, Belay!

Grades 6-9 Session 4A Fee $485

Do you love the thrill of the high ropes course? Learn the skills you need to belay your teammates and develop the true meaning of trust. Climb and experience the ultimate challenge of these elements among the majestic redwoods. Develop team camaraderie and take your adventure to the next level by visiting another local ropes course too!

Treasure Island

Grades 6-9 Session 4B Fee $485

Ahoy matey… make camp at “pirates cove” where you’ll sleep in tree beds and search for a missing treasure. Learn the trade of a true pirate by sharpening your knot tying, and orienteering skills with your fellow shipmates. Become a swashbuckler for a day while setting sail around the Santa Cruz harbor!

Equestrian Programs

Skylark Ranch offers quality riding school instruction in a summer camp setting. Our program features beginning to advanced lessons in both English and Western riding. Emphasis in all program levels is on skill development, progression and expanding knowledge of horses and horse care. Within their registered program, campers are placed in classes based on their skill level. Classes are kept small with a ratio of at least 1 instructor to 6 campers.
  • Have daily lessons
  • Participate in daily theory lessons
  • Take part in the horse care and management
  • Participate in the sport of vaulting, which teaches balance while learning to move with a horse
  • Receive a written evaluation of their skills throughout the session and a ribbon of completion

Ride outdoors on natural trails and explore the majestic redwoods and rolling coastal meadows on horseback! Enjoy daily trail rides with spectacular views. Ride your horse to a cookout, take part in a mounted flag ceremony, try orienteering by horseback and more.

Saddle Up (Level 4: Western)

Spend 2 hours each day, refining your riding style and participating in lessons on theory and horsemanship. Perfect your upward and downward transition at the walk and trot, take your horse through a fan of poles, practice your lope, and take your horse over the bridge.

Mount Up (Level 4: English)

Grades 7-10 Session 4 Fee $785

Spend 2 hours each day, refining your riding style and participating in lessons on theory and horsemanship. Learn how to jump a cross rail at the trot, practice your canter, and go on a trail ride to jump a fence in the open.

Le Trec

Grades 6-9 Session 1 Fee $785

Discover the world of Trec, one of the fastest growing equestrian sports that every horse and rider can enjoy. The emphasis is on having fun with your horse! The sport is made up of three phases: orienteering, control of gaits, and a cross country obstacle course. Participate in daily lessons that will teach you how to overcome various challenges in the natural environment.

Advanced Equestrian Programs

These programs are by application only. Applications can be found on the registration page. See the skill requirements on the horse page to make sure you met the minimum requirements for the program. Applications will be reviewed by the Camp Director and Equestrian Director which may extend the usual period of time before campers are confirmed for the program. Contact the Girl Scout Council at happycamper@girlscoutsnorcal.org for more details.

Tally Ho! (Level 5: English)

Grades 8-12 Session 2 Fee $840

Explore the world of hunter seat competitions and take both under-saddle and over fences classes, improve your equitation, and create a drill routine to perform. In addition to flatwork, take lessons on dressage, jumping, cross country and more! A horse show will be held at the end of the session- parents are welcome to attend!

Wild West Adventure (Level 5: Western)

Grades 8-12 Session 4 Fee $840

Focus on Western Pleasure, reining and trail work. Sharpen your skills in gymkhana and O-Mok-See and practice timed events like barrel racing, pole bending, keyhole and a flag race! Develop your reining techniques from circles to flying change. A horse show will be held at the end of the session- parents are welcome to attend!

Skylark Ranch Leadership Programs

Leadership programs are by application only. To apply, submit your camp registration form and additional leadership application form and reference form, either on-line or by mail or FAX. The application form can be found on the registration page, you candownload it or contact the Girl Scout office at happycamper@girlscoutsnorcal.org. An interview may be required for all programs except Lead On! Only one of the C.I.T. or W.I.T. programs may be taken per summer. The Lead On! Program and any level of the C.I.T. program can be taken in the same summer.

Counselor-In-Training (C.I.T.)

Be at least 15 years old and entering the 10th Grade C.I.T. Fee $595

Improve your leadership skills and learn about the needs of children in the camp setting. Explore the basics of developing and delivering camp program and camp operations. Spend some time working with younger children.

Advanced Counselor-In-Training (C.I.T.)

Be at least 16 years old and entering the 11th Grade Advanced C.I.T. Fee $650

Focus on camp management and gain practical experience in various areas of the camp operation. Practice your leadership and program skills while working with younger campers. Must have completed C.I.T. or its equivalent.

Apprentice Counselor-In-Training (C.I.T.)

Be at least 17 years old and entering the 12th Grade Apprentice C.I.T. Fee $550

Find your place in camp. Use your leadership and program skills as you work under the supervision of camp staff, in units, or at your favorite specialty area. Carry out an individual project and learn more about camp management. Must have completed C.I.T. or its equivalent.

Advanced Wrangler-In-Training (W.I.T)

Be at least 16 years old and entering the 11th Grade Advanced W.I.T. Fee $650

Improve your leadership skills and learn the basics of horse care and teaching ground lessons. Explore the essentials of delivering a riding program, assist with lessons, theory, and program operations.

Apprentice Wrangler-In-Training (W.I.T)

Be at least 17 years old and entering the 12th Grade Apprentice W.I.T. Fee $550

Under the supervision of the Riding Staff, assist with beginning riding lessons and learn more about horseback riding program operations and management. At Skylark Ranch, help plan and present the advanced horse shows.
